Lynne and I decided that we wanted to celebrate our seventh anniversary by hiking from Multnoma Lodge to the top of Larch Mountain, then back down to the lodge for supper. It's about sixteen miles round trip, but we added a loop out to Franklin Ridge, making our hike closer to eighteen miles for the day.

Here are a few of our anniversary highlights.

Lynne changing from sneakers to boots in the Multnomah Falls parking lot.

800+ feet up and a mile and a bit into the hike are the first of many smaller falls above the main falls.

Another of the smaller falls. Very pretty.

Last time we passed this way (in April) this part of the trail was partially submerged.

One of the log bridges over the river.

If you're climbing a mountain you eventually  leave the river behind. Here Peter's sitting in an old rock slide.

Back in the woods again . . . two more miles to the parking lot near the top.

Someone (who huffed & puffed up the path from the summit parking lot) took our picture.

Time for a short (but well-deserved) nap.

A different path back. Peter and an impressive tree fungus.

Lynne and an impressive upturned tree root.

Lynne heading back down to the falls area from Franklin Ridge.

Back near the river & upper falls area.

We get back to the paved trail as the sun starts to set.

Multnomah Falls at sunset from a viewpoint on the paved trail to the head of the falls.

Pretty tired, but made it to the base of the falls just after sunset

Happy Anniversary!
